From Bible times to modern times women have struggled with their words. What to say and how to say it. What not to say. When it is best to remain silent. And what to do when you’ve said something you wish you could now take back. In this book a woman whose mouth has gotten her into loads of trouble shares the hows (and how-not-tos) of dealing with the tongue.


Beyond just a “how not to gossip” book, this book explores what the Bible says about the many ways we are to use our words and the times when we are to remain silent. Karen will cover using our speech to interact with friends, co-workers, family, and strangers as well as in the many places we use our words in private, in public, online, and in prayer. Even the words we say silently to ourselves. She will address unsolicited opinion-slinging, speaking the truth in love, not saying words just to people-please, and dealing with our verbal anger.


Christian women struggle with their mouths. Even though we know that Scripture has much to say about how we are—and are not—to use our words, this is still an immense issue, causing heartache and strain not only in family relationships, but also in friendships, work, and church settings.

I wish we could sit out on my back deck and have a cup of coffee. I’d tell you my story and you could tell me yours. I do not do well with surface chit chat, so I’d get down to the deep stuff right away. I’d tell you about my heart for orphans.
Almost thirty years ago, I married my soul mate, Jerry.
God planted a dream to one day adopt in both of our hearts. Fourteen years and three biological children later, the adoption dream sprouted into reality.
We traveled to Poland to adopt a sibling group. After spending five weeks in Poland, four of them living in the orphanage, we flew back to the United States. After a second trip the four new Guires came home.  We were suddenly a large family.
My feet hit the ground running every morning trying to keep up with everything and everyone.  I amassed a library full of material on hurt children, attachment issues, fetal alcohol syndrome, family and adoption. The children grew and so did I. See that posed photo at the top of the page?  Looks like we have it all together, doesn’t it?  What it really says is, by the grace of God, I lived it. I learned.  I am right there with you.  Adoption is a struggle.  Building a family is backbreaking, brick upon brick work. I love what Nehemiah says- 14 I looked [them over] and rose up and said to the nobles and officials and the other people, Do not be afraid of the enemy; [earnestly] remember the Lord and imprint Him [on your minds], great and terrible, and [take from Him courage to] fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes. Nehemiah 4:15  It’s a good work. A positive work. Let’s work on it together. Ladies Bible Study

I’ve spent many years looking for the perfect pair of jeans. You know the ones that will bring hope and life to all we hope and long to happen in a pair of jeans. We search high and low for a good pair of low rise, easy on the eyes, sturdy on the thighs pair of jeans, and we have bought quite a few pairs, but are still looking for the pair of jeans.

And it’s the same when we look at the rest of our lives. What we desire is not necessarily what we have. Who we are isn’t really the person we want to be. Just as the perfect jeans seem to elude us, so do the obedient children, the perfect marital communication, and the conquering of all our weaknesses.

It seems like despite all our churchgoing and devotional reading, the weaknesses seem to be conquering us. So not only have we not found the perfect pair of jeans, but we are still struggling with anxiety and pride and an incapacitating love for chocolate.

It seems we supergirls need some forgiveness in other areas of our lives besides jeans and outerwear. We need forgiveness in our lives in general.

New Beth Moore Study Starting September 4th.

Ladies, are you ready to begin another Beth Moore study?    Beginning on Wednesday, September 4th we will open our Bibles to the Book of Revelation and follow Beth Moore in her 11-week DVD lecture style series of "HERE and NOW---THERE and THEN".    

During these one-hour and fifteen minute sessions, Beth will translate some of our greatest God-fearing scholars' commentaries and perspectives into laymen's terms and applications.
 
Note that our Fall Woman to Woman Bible Study will have a new format this time around.   Firstly,  our weekly meetings will begin at 7:00 p.m.     Participants may place their order with us for a Listening Guide & Weekly Assignment Book  ($10).  Homework will consist of reading along in the chapters of Revelation and answering 5-7 questions during the course of the week and recording personal revelations of God that you've experience or witnessed during the week.    Since this is a lecture series, we will not be holding small group sessions.   Coffee and refreshing water will be available each night.   And, our meetings will conclude promptly at 8:30 p.m.
 
Our featured memory verse during our study will be from Revelation, Chapter 17, Verse 14:   
"They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords, and King of kings -- and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers."

March 20th is the start date for our Beth Moore Bible Study "The Patriarchs".

Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m and our introductory DVD session will begin
at 7 p.m.

For those ladies who have pre-registered before today's date, you will receive your workbook on Wednesday (March 20th). The cost is $16 (checks payable to Trinity Assembly / memo: "The Patriarchs").

If you haven't sign-up yet, come on out tomorrow, and we'll get your book ordered and available to you by the following week (March 27th).

Spring Bible Study is almost here!

 

Ladies... It's almost Spring!!! Just three weeks away (March 20th). You can feel it in the air and hear it in the songs of the birds!

It's also the same day that our Beth Moore study on The Patriarchs begins. [ Due to the church's annual business meeting being held on a Wednesday in January... it pushed the beginning date of our study to March 20th. We project our final session to be held on May 29th. ]

It's not too late to invite your friends to join you in this Bible study adventure. On Wed., Mar. 20th we will have open registration. You may select the small group you would like to join in with for our weekly study review / discussion. We have a wonderful group of ladies that will be facilitating these small groups: Joni Bokanovich, Kristy Cole, Debbie Conaway, Tammy Cramer-Thomas, Elizabeth DeRoos, Kay Efaw, Sonya Esulante, Carol Hepler,Darlene Kisner, Marsha Lloyd, Lori Teets, Vanessa Roque, and Nancy Sellers. A special "thanks" goes out to them for serving in this special capacity.

Bible study with kids.

Our boys are now 8, 6, and 5.  We've been searching for a better choice for our evening Bible story.  It just seemed like everything we came across was too young or too old.

Enter my new, most favorite family Bible study:

Each night, we follow Doc as we dig for the truth. 

There are four parts to each lesson:
The map tells us where we will be going today.
The dig is the main part of the lesson. 
The treasure is the big idea of each lesson.
And finally, the display - how we put this idea into real life.

My favorite part of this book is that unlike many kids Bible story books or devotionals, you actually use your Bible.  I love that each night the boys are finding the book of Luke.  I love that they are becoming more familiar with the location of the books of the Bible and realizing that the Bible is for them.  I love that they are reading the word of God, not just someone else's paraphrase of a Bible story. 

The lessons are concise, which helps a lot with the "antsy in the pantsy" problem of many of our previous attempts at family Bible study.

We've been using this book for the past couple of weeks and are really enjoying it.  I downloaded my copy onto my Kindle, but it's available for the Nook or as a PDF file as well.  I think it's the best $5 I've spent in a long time.
